A family holiday stands or falls on two things: short distances and enough space. Oetz delivers both. The village sits at the entrance to the Ötztal — you are here in under an hour from Innsbruck airport, with no endless mountain pass and no grumbling passengers in the back seat. And all around the village lies everything that makes children's eyes light up: the warm Lake Piburg in the forest, the Ötzi Village with its animals, and in winter the kids' area in Hochoetz — with the ski bus right at our front door.
At the Urlaubsplatzl you do not stay in a hotel room but in a holiday apartment of 40 to 110 m²: separate bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen for everyday family life and two hosts who know first-hand what families need. A day at the water: Lake Piburg & the pool
Lake Piburg is Oetz's most famous destination — a dark-green forest lake that ranks among the warmest bathing lakes in Tyrol. You reach it in a good half hour on foot via the forest path (with a pushchair: better take the road) or in a few minutes by car. A lawn, a bathing jetty, ice cream from the kiosk — a day at the water needs no more than that. If you prefer slides and a supervised pool: the outdoor pool in Oetz is right in the village. And for bad-weather days the Aqua Dome thermal spa in Längenfeld is about 20 minutes up the valley by car.

Ötzi Village, waterfall & Widiversum
About 15 minutes up the valley by car lies Umhausen with the Ötzi Village: an open-air archaeological site where children experience how the Iceman lived — with mangalica pigs, goats and hands-on stations. Right next door, the birds of prey park shows eagles and vultures in flight demonstrations, and the trail to the Stuiben Falls, Tyrol's highest waterfall, starts practically around the corner. In Oetz itself, the Acherkogel cable car takes you up to the Widiversum Hochoetz — an adventure playground, a petting-zoo feel and easy themed trails at 2,020 metres.

Action for older kids & teenagers
At some point children outgrow the petting zoo — and that is exactly when the Ötztal really comes into its own. On family rafting trips along gentle stretches of river, primary-school children can already sit safely in the boat with guides, depending on the operator. At the valley entrance, around 10 minutes by car from Oetz, lies AREA 47 — Austria's best-known outdoor arena with a water park, slides and a high ropes course, the half-day classic for teenagers. Add bike trails, via ferratas and tandem paragliding right in Oetz — and in the evening, enough space in the apartment to tell each other all about it.

Winter: the Hochoetz kids' area
In winter Oetz shows its most family-friendly side: the ski bus stops right at our front door and takes you to the Acherkogel cable car — at the top, Hochoetz waits with wide, sunny slopes and its own kids' area with a magic carpet, where the ski schools take over the little ones while you carve your turns. The skis sleep in our heated ski room with boot warmers — warm boots in the morning are half the battle with children. And if you do not ski: tobogganing, winter walking or simply hot chocolate with a mountain view.

Which apartment suits a family with two children?
For four people the Sky (75 m², two bedrooms, large kitchen-living room) is our family classic. If you want two bathrooms, take the Classy (60 m², up to 5 people) — and with grandma and grandpa you will fit into the Charmy (90 m²) or the 360 (110 m², up to 8 people). Are the apartments suitable for families with toddlers?
Yes — all five apartments have separate bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher for baby food, bottles and family cooking, and a quiet location away from the through road. Whatever you need for the little ones (a travel cot, for example) is best arranged directly with us shortly before booking.
What can you do in Oetz with children?
In summer: swimming at Lake Piburg or in the Oetz outdoor pool, the Ötzi Village with its birds of prey park in Umhausen, the Stuiben Falls (Tyrol's highest waterfall) and the Widiversum adventure world in Hochoetz. For older children: family rafting and AREA 47 at the valley entrance. In winter: the kids' area and ski school in Hochoetz, tobogganing and winter walking.
What can you do in the Ötztal with children when it rains?
The classic is the Aqua Dome thermal spa in Längenfeld, around 20 minutes by car from Oetz — with its own children's area. The Ötzi Village also works well with a rain jacket, and Innsbruck with its alpine zoo and old town is about 45 minutes away.
How do families get to the ski area in winter?
Very comfortably: the ski bus stops right at our front door and takes you to the Acherkogel cable car up to Hochoetz — no packing the car, no hunting for a parking space. The skis are stored overnight in the heated ski room with boot warmers, so in the morning your boots are warm and dry.
Is Lake Piburg suitable for children?
Lake Piburg is one of the warmest bathing lakes in Tyrol and lies just a good half hour on foot above Oetz — with lawns and a bathing jetty. It is a natural lake without continuous supervision, so as anywhere near water, parents keep an eye on their own children.
